Den-Den and Michelle of Black Star Foundation spent the first 3 weeks of 2010 in Jamaica! Dutch rapper Brainpower came with us.
Black Star and Brainpower:
Brainpower listens to reggae music his whole life and he has a nice reggae collection of vinyl and CD's. Our cooperation all started when Brainpower found out that Black Star Foundation was working with Yellowman. Yellowman is one of the first DJ's (80-ties), an inspiration for rap and hiphop music in the US.
Dennis (Den-Den) and Brainpower know each other from school (Alphen a/d Rijn, Holland). Brainpower was having a vacation in the same period Dennis and Michelle had planned a trip to Jamaica, so Brainpower came with us!
Holidays:
First of all we relaxed and chilled on the beautiful clifs and beaches in Negril. A lot of great artists performed there, like Yellowman, John Holt, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Alborosie, Duane Stephensen and The Mighty Diamonds.
Black Star Foundation was also present at some big stageshows in Jamaica, like the newyear festival by Anthony B in Trelawny and Rebel Salute Festival by Tony Rebel in St. Elisabeth.
We also spent a lot of time with Yellowman. He showed us around, showed us where he grew up and where he lives now.
Black Star work:
We also did some work in Jamaica for Black Star Foundation. The tune by Lady K-Wida and Lady G (recorded last year with the Fire House Crew) has been mixed by Tixie (soundengineer of Anthony B and others) in the Anchor Studio in Kingston and we recorded 2 dubplates with John Holt.
Brainpower:
Brainpower is really inspired by this trip to Jamaica. Summer 2010 we released Brainpowers first reggae CD! More info here.
